Current pols’ mixing of church and state’s unseemly

The flurry of so-called conservative candidates for state offices are now blatantly touting their “Christianity” on their TV commercials.

We also have a Democrat candidate mentioning her preacher parents as one of her qualifications for office.

There are all kinds of “Christians”, just as there are all kinds of Jews, Muslims and non-believers .

Mixing church and state is divisive, unseemly, and insulting. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is just as important as the Second Amendment that the Republican candidates are so intent on enforcing.

Appeals to fear and tribalism will not get my vote.

Luckovich cartoon wrongly blames Israel for Gaza violence

Again, a one-sided, unfair cartoon appears putting all the blame on Israel (Mike Luckovich, May 16). In 1995, the U.S. Congress voted to move its embassy to Jerusalem but it was stalled and stalled.

Peace eludes Israel because the Palestinian Authority (PA)-Hamas don’t want peace.

They want a nonexistent State of Israel, the only Jewish state. Yet, Palestinians prefer to live in Israel, not the PA territories.

Any PA-Hamas official who recognizes Israel’s right to exist knows he will be assassinated. The 10,000-plus mobs, not protestors, trying to breach the wall between Gaza and Israel have planned this for months.

They have been instructed when to show up, to bring knives and guns hidden under their clothes, and aim to catch an IDF soldier. Women and toddlers are seen walking around, forced to be there, let alone the tires burning, rocks and molotov cocktails hurled. Many have been bringing wire cutters to penetrate the wall.

Out of the 60 killed, 50 have been identified as Hamas terrorists.

Israel wants peace, so be truthful in your reporting and cartoons please.

Rebel monuments not cause of black community’s woes

It seems every time I watch TV, there’s yet another “slider” car hijacking, a convenience store robbery, a murder on our streets or other act of violence routinely committed by a young black thug. I know there are many hard-working, honest black people out there, but it cannot be denied that there are unaddressed deep problems in the black community. The majority of black males have no father figure. The dropout rate of black students remains painfully high. Violence by black students is under-reported for political reasons. Despite all this, the NAACP attacks old Confederate statues as if these old monuments cause modern-day problems in the black community. More accurately, problems in the black community are caused by black leaders who retain their power because of anti-white rhetoric. As long as black folks believe they are “victims,” as taught by their leaders, black Americans will not obtain the respect to which they are entitled.

Not all want Trump & Co. as face of U.S.

How much more embarrassment can this country take? To have to watch two Trump representatives, with no experience and no knowledge of international diplomacy, act like they did in Israel was very painful. Not to mention both representatives are dumb as a stump. But that has become the trademark of the Trump administration. Trump’s move of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem shows both his ignorance and how crooked he is. He’s only looking at avenues to pursue his own personal wealth. Trump is now the face if America. Could it get any uglier?
