In a case police likened to the Grinch stealing Christmas, a man has been arrested after he allegedly stole the belongings of a Salvation Army bell-ringer in Milton.

Surveillance video taken the day after Thanksgiving shows a man walking away with the backpack, which was right inside the doors of a Walmart on Windward Parkway, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“When they got there they found the gentleman working the Salvation Army donation kettle had his backpack stolen,” Milton police Capt. Charles Barstow told the news station. “Obviously this case kind of tugged at our heart strings.”

Police posted the man’s picture on Facebook; he was later identified as Scott Dobbs and arrested on theft charges.

“His Grinching days will be quickly coming to a close,” police wrote in an update on Facebook.

Dobbs remains in the Fulton County Jail, according to jail records.
