Woodstock to unveil downtown community mural

After more than a year of research and actual painting, a community mural will formally be unveiled this weekend in downtown Woodstock.

The event is to start at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Woodstock Visitors Center, 8588 Main St., where artist Annalysa Kimball has set up a exhibit detailing the progress of the mural. A ribbon cutting follows at 6:30 p.m. at the mural, on the side of the Woodstock Pharmacy building, 8612 Main.

Kimball collected stories and historic photographs from residents to create the Woodstock Community Mural in commemoration of the city’s 120th anniversary. The work covers a brick wall 19 feet high and 92 feet long.

The project was funded by an Atlanta Regional Public Art Program grant of $8,000 from the Atlanta Regional Commission, matched by $8,000 from the Woodstock Downtown Development Authority and Preservation Woodstock. Information: https://bit.ly/2Jwi2EQ
