The Woodstock City Council has approved the third reading of an extended moratorium on development in the Ridgewalk Parkway corridor, giving staff time to review land use requirements and zoning ordinances and recommend revisions.
The 30-day emergency moratorium imposed July 17 is being extended to Oct. 16. No permit applications for public hearings, site plan reviews or building would be accepted during this period. Exceptions would be made for projects in process when the moratorium was adopted or that propose to annex into the city.
The city’s long-range plans envision the Ridgewalk corridor, including the interchange of Ridgewalk and I-575, for office, commercial and residential uses, with an emphasis on corporate headquarters and campuses.
But the area has had an “inconsistent pattern of development” over the last 18 years, according to the moratorium ordinance.
“An emergency exists as to the lack of concise controls over the regulation of land use and design within the corridor,” the ordinance says.
