A wife is facing charges after she tried to help her husband avoid suspicion after he allegedly killed a man in a brazen DeKalb County shooting.

David E. Johnson, Jr., along with Brandon Pitts, is accused of murder in the death of Timond Eugene Chubb, who died June 3 when two groups used a shotgun, a rifle and several handguns in a shootout at an apartment complex.

Warrants released this week allege Johnson’s wife, Kayna Johnson, was “at the very minimum a witness to the shooting” at Decatur Gardens apartments on Glenwood Road. Afterward, she is said to have driven him to Florida.

The documents, which charge her with hindering the apprehension of a suspect and false report, also claim she tried to help him by reporting one of the guns used in the shootout as stolen.

Police have said the shooting might have been gang-related but haven’t elaborated.

David Johnson, who was arrested in Florida in June, remains in the DeKalb County jail, where his wife arrived Friday.

She bonded out Tuesday, though jail records don’t say how much her bond was.
