Walton High School isn’t the biggest high school in Cobb County, but it is the newest.

You don’t become the second-largest school system in Georgia without some pretty big high schools, and the Cobb County School District has a few of those.

The district has a total enrollment of 111,139 students, according to Ehsan Kattoula, assistant superintendent of the school system’s accountability division.

Kattoula said that number should pass 113,000 by the time the state makes its official count in October.

Cobb’s five largest high schools teach a total of 13,319 students — or about 12 percent of the students in the district’s more than 110 schools.

If you're trying to get a feel for that number: U.S. Census data estimates that Austell's population in 2016 was 7,139 and 14,956 in Powder Springs.

The county's biggest school is North Cobb High School with 2,833 students. For perspective, that would only be the 10th-largest school in Gwinnett County, the state's largest district.

The newest school on Cobb's top-5 list is Walton High School, which had its ribbon-cutting the day before the district kicked off metro Atlanta's back-to-school season on July 31.

Here are the five largest high schools in Cobb:

  • North Cobb: 2,833 students
  • Campbell: 2,825
  • Walton: 2,659
  • Pebblebrook: 2,565
  • Hillgrove: 2,437
