Watch a wrecking ball break Colony Square while confetti rains down

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, North American Properties broke ground on the redevelopment of Colony Square.

Developer North American Properties broke ground on the redevelopment of Colony Square Tuesday.

The “iconic office towers and dated retail center” will be renovated in multiple phases, with the final phase expected to be finished on Nov. 21, 2019, according to a press release.

New additions will include a movie theater; an outdoor gathering place called The Grove; a 28,000-square-foot food hall called Main & Main; and FitLab, a central area that will house multiple fitness and health businesses — such as barre, cycle, Pilates, strength-training, boxing and a juice bar.

Main & Main will include Sukoshi, a fast-casual sushi concept by the food hall’s curator, chef Steve Palmer.

Mark Toro, NAP managing partner, said Colony Square will be turned inside out as Midtown has “grown up to be the most desirable urban experience in the Southeast.”

NAP closed on its purchase of the two office towers and retail mall at 14th and Peachtree streets in Decemeber 2015. Colony Square was considered ahead of its time in the late 1960s and 1970s, but it fell behind other office development in Midtown.

NAP has been involved with major area projects such as Atlantic Station and Avalon in Alpharetta.
