Toys R Us/Babies R Us in Cobb was set to close, but will now stay open


After being first slotted to close, the combination Toys R Us/Babies R Us on Cobb Parkway will live on.

The company announced in late January that it planned to shutter a fifth of its 880 American stores, including eight in Georgia.

But the Smyrna store was not among those in an updated list released Wednesday.

It appears to be the only lucky one; liquidation has begun for the other seven stores in Georgia.

There was no reason given for why the Cobb County location was taken off the chopping block.

This all comes after Toys R Us filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last September. The company said it expects to close most of the stores for good by April.
