Siblings from metro Atlanta recount Florida school shooting

The two had a message for friends and family back home.

Two Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students originally from metro Atlanta were caught in Wednesday’s school shooting.

Siblings Tyler and Maddy Goodman told Channel 2 Action News they each lost a friend after a gunman killed 17 people inside the Parkland, Fla., school.

The suspect, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, who faces 17 counts of premeditated murder, had been expelled from the school.

"I'm all right. I haven't been sleeping well, though,” Tyler Goodman said. "It's just tough just imagining and the sounds and everything. It's just hard.”

Tyler, a senior, and Maddy, a sophomore at the Florida school, are originally from Fayette County, Channel 2 reported.

In addition to their grief over the friends lost in the massacre, Tyler and Maddy also mourn the death of assistant football coach Aaron Feis. They considered him a second father.

Tyler, a star quarterback, told Channel 2 he was in his head football coach’s office when he got the news that Feis was fatally shot.

"…I just collapsed in the middle of his office and just started crying. I couldn't bear it," he said.

The siblings want their friends in Fayette County to know they’re OK, but they also know it will take time for them to heal.

"This is something that I don't think any of us students are going to get over,” Maddy Goodman told Channel 2, “especially being so young.”
