The Henry County Board of Education voted Aug. 13 to set priorities for the use of about $4.8 million left over from the previous E-SPLOST, which collected $157 million between 2013 and 2017.
Five items were included on the list, in order of priority: security enhancements to establish single-point entry for all high schools; replacement of buses 20 years or older; restoration of print instructional materials for classroom teachers; HVAC for elementary school gymnasiums; and HVAC for the current bus fleet. The money is to be spent on these items in order until the funds are depleted.
The previous E-SPLOST allowed for the construction of Hampton High School as well as renovations and modifications to a number of other facilities.
