Expect a soggy Sunday.

Heavy rain passed through metro Atlanta and occasional showers are expected to continue off and on all day, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

“We’ll have waves of showers here and there,” Monahan said.

Dry breaks will not last, he said.

It’s going to be wet into Monday morning in North Georgia, he said, and the whole state will see rain over the next few days.

The cold front moving toward north Georgia will take the better part of the next couple of days to move through, Monahan said, adding there is a chance of storms Sunday within the line.

An additional inch or more of rain is possible, Monahan said.

Another wave will move along a stalled cold front, providing widespread coverage of heavier and steadier rain late Sunday night through Monday morning’s commute.

And the rain is cooling the above average temperatures the state has felt all week.

Currently, the temperature in Atlanta is 64 degrees.

Temps are expected to stay in the 60s through most of the work week, Channel 2 reported.

“Tuesday morning will be chilly, compared to where we’ve been recently, with lows in the 30s and 40s,” Monahan said. “Expect partly to mostly sunny sky Tuesday afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 60s.”

The next system moves in Wednesday into Thursday with increasing rain.

“By Thursday, we’ll be in the low 70s ahead of the cold front. There is the possibility of some isolated strong storms as that front moves through,” Monahan said.

The week will finish partly to mostly sunny with temperatures mainly in the 60s.
At nearly 11 degrees above average, February looks likely to become the warmest on record, Monahan said.
