The playground at the Silver Comet Trail Linear Park in Powder Springs will become shadier with funding from the federal government.

The Powder Springs City Council decided April 16 to ask Cobb County officials to allow them to use Community Development Block Grant funds under Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974.

In addition to the playground shade structures, city officials would like to use their share of the annual funding to offset youth camp service expenses.

They also want to use the money for health and fitness equipment, gardening structures and structural improvements at the Senior Citizens Center facility next to the Powder Springs Library, 4181 Atlanta St.

In other business, Council voted to pay $13,230 to Ardito Construction Company, Inc. to raise 27 water valves on Macedonia Road for them to be accessible, operable, tested and exercised on a regular schedule.
