The Powder Springs City Council decided 5-0 on Dec. 3 to expand the city’s alcohol license permissions.
Effective Dec. 8 only in the downtown development district, special permits will be allowed for pouring wine and beer for on-premises consumption.
Also allowed in the downtown district will be the sale of package wine and beer beverages for off-premises consumption.
Those permit holders do not have to sell food - although they may make available the sale of food by third-party vendors on their business premises.
Then because of the affirmative vote by the city’s residents in November, wine and beer may be sold and served on Sundays, beginning at 11 a.m. instead of 12:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. by city business owners with a Sunday sales permit and a city alcoholic beverage pouring license.
However, when New Year’s Eve occurs on a Sunday, alcoholic beverages may be served until 2:55 a.m. on Monday.
