Despite complaints from residents and cyclists about the rough surface of two Fayette County roads, the Board of Commissioners said on July 12 that the county has no plans to resurface them.
Steve Hoffman, director of the road department, gave an overview of the “chip seal” surface treatment that was applied to 1.6 miles of Huckaby Road and a half mile of Robinson Road in June. Residents who attended the meeting complained that the rough surface and the scattering of gravel debris into front yards have made conditions worse than before. Hoffman said resurfacing over the chip seal would cost $230,155.
County Administrator Steve Rapson said the county will re-evaluate the roads in another six months, and has no plans to use chip seal elsewhere in the meantime.
