Plans change for boutique ‘Cotton House’ hotel in Alpharetta

Plans for a boutique hotel in Alpharetta are moving forward, but with some modifications.

Before developers go in front of city leaders again at Monday’s city council meeting to request rezoning of the property at 21 Milton Avenue, they have adjusted their proposal. This comes after a presentation to Alpharetta’s planning commission on Nov. 2.

The developers of the Cotton House Hotel, Mayfair Street Partners, have modified the proposal of the hotel from five stories to four, and have increased parking space provided from 122 spaces to 132.

This would lower the building height of the proposed hotel from 67 feet to 54 feet. The original proposal for the hotel included plans for 120 rooms, but a height reduction would almost certainly change that number.

Plans for the site — which spans over an acre — also include space for retail, restaurants and a spa.

Some residents commenting on a Facebook post from the city’s official page were worried about what impact this hotel would have on the farmer’s market that operates near there. The page’s moderator assured it wouldn’t, saying, “If the boutique hotel were to be approved, it would not put an end to the Farmers Market. The event may or may not need to be relocated to another location in Downtown Alpharetta, but the Farmers Market would continue unless the organizers (Alpharetta Business Association) decide to end it.”
