There’s only one race that takes place exclusively in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward and it’s happening Saturday.

Members of the Hope-Hill Elementary Foundation are encouraging Atlanta citizens to come out and be a part of the third annual Old Fourth Ward 5K. Robert Pugh, president of the foundation, explained the race is a time for community members to come together and support a local school.

“It’s a great time in the neighborhood and it’s a great cause,” Pugh said. “Due to the success of the race in 2017, we were able to fund an intensive literacy program that contributed to improvements in test scores.”

Don’t forget to check out the scenery while running. Foundation members designed the course so it includes new and old landmarks such as Ponce City Market and the Martin Luther King Jr. historic district.

According to Pugh, 1,000 runners participated in last year's 5K. Due to widening of the course, up to 1,500 runners are allowed to sign up for this year's race and there's still time. The cost of the race is $35.

Those looking to get ahead of crowds and lines are encouraged to swing by Highland Runners for a bib number and T-shirt between 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 15.

Be aware of road closures as well. North Avenue, Glen Iris Drive, Randolph Street, Auburn Avenue, and Edgewood Avenue will all be closed for the event.

The race will take place at 8:00 a.m. on June 16 in Historic Fourth Ward Park.
