In an effort to improve traffic flow at a busy intersection, Peachtree City plans to install a roundabout where Peachtree Parkway South meets Crosstown Drive.

The City Council voted 5-0 on May 17 to approve an intergovernmental agreement with Fayette County that would devote $1.5 million of county Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds for the project. Any costs above that, estimated at $500,000, would be paid by the city. City Manager Jon Rorie said that “significant backups and time delays” during rush hour, documented by traffic studies, prompted the decision to change the intersection’s configuration from the current four-way stop.

Once the county commission signs off on the agreement, the project will be expedited, but construction would not begin until at least next year.
