Meet Alpharetta’s newest councilman

Ben Burnett won the only contested race in Alpharetta this election cycle.

Burnett was facing Ben Easterling for the Post 2 seat on the city council. Burnett got 60 percent of the vote to Easterling’s 39 percent.

Incumbent councilmen Chris Owens and Donald Mitchell were also up for re-election, but faced zero challengers and retained their seats.

In total, 3,704 votes were cast in the Post 2 council race in Alpharetta.

Burnett, 34, works in the technology industry and holds a degree from Samford University. He and his wife have three children. Prior to seeking the Post 2 seat, he served on the planning commission in Alpharetta.

In October, Burnett told the AJC he got into the race because “the density and traffic is choking the average homeowner who put a stake in the ground.”

Burnett succeeds Mike Kennedy on the council, who did not seek re-election.
