Marietta child allegedly abducted from bus stop is back with family

Police are investigating the alleged abduction of a Marietta elementary school student who is now back with family.

Grant Rivera, superintendent of Marietta City Schools, said the child was snatched up at a bus stop near Franklin Road on Thursday morning.

Rivera sent a letter to parents “out of an abundance of caution. Put simply, I always prefer to over-communicate with our families regarding matters of student safety.”

The letter goes on to say that Marietta police are investigating. So far, they believe two men in a white van abducted the child and dropped the student off at a second location.

Neither a timeline nor further details were given.

As a result of the abduction, Rivera said the district has added supervision in the community and is closely monitoring bus routes.
