Loganville city hall moving to former elementary school

Loganville is relocating city government offices under one roof to the former Loganville Elementary School and will open for business July 17. The current city hall at 4385 Pecan St. has been home to the city’s government since January 2000 but has become too small.

The elementary school campus at 4303 Lawrenceville Highway became vacant a year ago when the Walton County School District opened a new school. Financing was approved in September with the Georgia Municipal Association as a facilitator for a low-interest loan obtained through BB&T for a total of $1.6 million. The loan represents $250,000 over the purchase price of the building to provide funds for some of the renovation work.

All city hall operations will be moved into the front wing of the old school, with the addition of code enforcement and the fire marshall’s office. Beginning July 17, residents will pay their utility bills and request government services such as planning and zoning permits, new water service and facility rentals at the new location. All phone numbers and email addresses will remain the same.

Loganville’s city council meetings are not expected to move until August when new council chambers are complete.

Long-range plans for the 10-acre campus include moving police and court operations into the second wing and adding recreation opportunities to the grounds.
