Officials with the city of Sandy Springs and its fire department are blaming a house fire on lightning.

The fire happened shortly after 10 p.m. Friday on the 1000 block of Pitts Road.

There were no reported injuries, the city said, but the home “sustained extensive damage.”

One person and two dogs were in the home when the fire started, but got out safely.

The fire department had “the bulk of the fire” extinguished within 45 minutes.

According to online property records for Fulton County, the two-story home was built in 1983, had three bedrooms and one bathroom, and had a total of 1,680 square-feet of living space. Together, the home and property are valued at $240,000.
