Lawrenceville establishes policy governing use of personal property

The Lawrenceville City Council recently authorized the city manager to establish a policy governing personal property that is used by employees as part of their day to day operations.

As an example, most mechanic’s tools are their private property. With the new policy, all privately owned tools and equipment eligible for use in the course of city business must first be reviewed and placed on a City Managers Schedule of Authorized Equipment (Schedule). Approval requires proper training and safety standards be in place. The department will ensure the equipment is maintained as long as the equipment is used in the work place. Further, maintenance logs or policies must be established, prior to use along with a host of other guidelines.

The purpose of the new policy is to make it clear what the employee is responsible for and what the city will be responsible for in terms of loss, maintenance and use.
