Two people were killed in a one-car Cobb County crash.

Two people were killed Saturday night when their SUV left a road and hit two trees, Cobb County police said.

The driver, 26-year-old Meghan McClendon of Powder Springs, and the passenger, 23-year-old Javonte Knight of Marietta, were pronounced dead at the scene, Officer Sarah O’Hara said.

“Investigators believe excessive speed was a factor in the collision and do not expect to file charges,” O’Hara said.

About 11:30 p.m., a 2010 Jeep Commander was southbound on Hiram Lithia Springs Road approaching Story Road, O’Hara said. While taking on a curve, the Jeep crossed into the other lane and left the road.

“The Jeep continued onto a grassy shoulder before colliding with two trees,” O’Hara said.

Knight was ejected and landed on the shoulder, according to police.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 770-499-3987.
