This is the Kenyan American Community Church in Marietta where the Majuu event will be held.

“Kenyans are not just good runners, but they have a contribution to America by making it more beautiful,” says Rev. George Gitahi.

Gitahi and his Kenyan American Community Church off Canton Road in Marietta are hosting the free Atlanta Majuu Cultural Expo this weekend to celebrate Kenyan culture.

“Majuu,” he explained, describes a place at the top.

In attendance will be Emmy Kosgei, a gospel singer who was named by the Kenyan government as a cultural tourism ambassador in 2014, according to The Standard newspaper.

Gitahi said the weekend will be celebrated with music, dancing, food, educational exhibits and prayer on Sunday.

One of the exhibits will show models of 19th-century huts where Kenyans once lived, and there will be vendors selling traditional African wares.

Gitahi’s church will enter its 20th year soon, and the event has been running most of that time, he said.

Gitahi said the weekend is also for children not to forget about their culture.

“When you hear my accent and see my complexion, these are things that never go,” he said.

About 600 people are expected to attend Sunday, and the event is growing. Plans are to hold next year’s event in the civic center and expand beyond celebrating only Kenya to more African countries and bring in champion Kenyan runners a special guests..
