How to register your child for Atlanta Public Schools

Students who still need to be registered for Atlanta Public Schools should do so in the coming weeks.

The first day of school for APS students is Wednesday, Aug. 1. Students will only need to re-register if they have moved, or are entering 6th or 9th grade, the district's website says.

An online enrollment system, which is provided in English and Spanish, allows parents to quickly fill out their child’s information and upload documents to create a preliminary record. That will help shorten the in-person visit to the central office or school, which is still required for APS staff to verify the student’s birth certificate and Social Security card documents and finalize enrollment.

Parents will need to present proof of residency paperwork and other required forms during the in-person visit. See the list of documents for new students here, and the list for current students here.

Parents can register at their child's school from 9 a.m. to noon, with the exception of July 27, according to APS spokesman Ian Smith. They can also register during each school's open house on either July 30 or July 31. Parents should contact the school to determine when the open house will be held or review the open house schedule here.

Structured registration hours will be held at APS schools from 9 a.m.-noon on the remaining days: 

• Monday, July 9 through Thursday, July 12

• Monday, July 23 through Thursday, July 26
