Herzing University may move from Buckhead and into a historic downtown building that sits in the midst of the Georgia State University campus.

JLL, a real estate and investment management firm, secured a 30,000-square-foot lease in the Hurt Building for the new tenant, according to a press release. Pending final approval from its accreditor, Herzing University will occupy a full floor in Hurt by late summer.

The private nonprofit institution, established in Milwaukee in 1965, currently operates out of Lenox Square Mall. Herzing has 10 campuses across seven states and an online division.

President Renee Herzing said the 50 Hurt Plaza building would be a “convenient and attractive location” for hundreds of students pursuing degrees in nursing, business, healthcare, legal studies, public safety, cybersecurity and information technology.

The university has “served adult learners in Atlanta for almost 40 years and this move will help us support more students in the years to come,” she said.

The 18-story Hurt Building was built in 1913 and acquired by Gamma Real Estate and Meltzer Properties in 2016. A $4 million-dollar renovation began in October and is expected to be complete by May.

JLL has leased more than 130,000 square feet at the building since 2016, the release said. Herzing University’s lease brings Hurt to 80 percent occupancy.
