It’s July, which means the latest edition of the John Madden football video game is due out soon, which means the ratings have already been released.

Madden 19 player ratings for NFL players were released by EA Sports last week, published in an online database that it will update throughout the season. Some players were happy with their ratings while others — like Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette and Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward — were offended.

The handful of NFL players from north Fulton County didn’t make much fuss on social media about their ratings for the 2018-19 season. Milton High School grad Carl Lawson, now a defensive end for the Cincinnati Bengals, leads the group with a rating of 82.

Madden first launched as a video game in 1988. The latest version is due out on Aug. 10 and will feature soon-to-be NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens on its cover.

The highest rating a player can receive is a 99. Attribute ratings for Madden are determined by EA Sports' team of scouts and "Rating Experts." The overall rating is then determined by a formula, combining all of those differently weighed attributes.

Seven players received 99 ratings in Madden 19, including Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Antonio Brown, Aaron Donald, Von Miller, Luke Kuechly and Rob Gronkowski.
