The Alpharetta City Council has approved a $119,600 change order to the design contract for extending the Big Creek Greenway north from its current terminus at Marconi Drive.

The proposed route of the greenway extension to Union Hill Park/McGinnis Ferry Road has been changed, with about 3,400 lineal feet dropped and 6,500 feet added, for a new, total length of 12,700 feet. This will require additional surveys of about 15 acres to complete the construction documents, according to Alpharetta’s engineering consultant, Pond & Co.

Besides updating survey information, Pond will prepare construction documents, conduct hydrological studies and hydrological and flood studies for all creek crossings, and perform geotechnical services related to bridge foundations, walls and elevated trails, according to a staff report to the council.

The change will increase the total value of Pond’s design contract to $527,025.

The goal is to have all permits in hand and the project ready to bid for construction next April, staff said.
