The local chapter of a democratic socialist group will repair drivers’ brake lights for free in metro Atlanta this Memorial Day weekend.

Metro Atlanta Democratic Socialists of America organizers say the clinic aims to prevent "unnecessary police stops that can result in expensive tickets and court appearances."

“By reducing the opportunity for police stops that disproportionately affect marginalized populations, the Metro Atlanta DSA works toward its vision of a more just, humane and free society,” a press release said.

Volunteers from the group, which has gained attention for projecting anti-Trump messages onto the sides of Atlanta buildings, reportedly repaired more than 50 brake lights at a Stone Mountain clinic in February.

One event will be held Friday at Hearts to Nourish Hope, 640 Highway 138 SW in Riverdale; the other will take place Sunday at Tucker Animal Hospital, 4988 Lavista Road. Both will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
