Georgia Gwinnett College is continuing its stellar growth with a five percent increase in enrollment this year. For the last several years, the college has led the state university system in enrollment growth, according to a news release.

The Lawrenceville college now has more than 12,000 students and has been recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the country.

More than 70 percent of students are from Gwinnett County, and a majority of the students commute, according to the release.

The college contributed more than $416 million to the local economy during the last fiscal year, according to a study commissioned by the University System of Georgia.

In Georgia, 20 university system schools, including Kennesaw State University and Georgia Tech, saw enrollment increases this year. There are more than 321,000 students in state colleges and universities this year.
