Fayette County High School will soon lose its dubious distinction of being the only high school in the county without its own auditorium.

The Board of Education recently voted 5-0 to proceed with plans to build an $8.4 million addition that will house both an auditorium and a new band and orchestra room. Currently, students must use Sams Auditorium across the street in the LaFayette Educational Center, which was the original site of the high school.

Funds will come primarily from ESPLOST revenue. Construction will begin almost immediately, but will not be completed until summer 2018.
