Governor Nathan Deal recently awarded the city of Fairburn with a grant in the amount of $1.5 million through the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank. The funding will go toward the Howell Avenue Extension, a T-SPLOST Roadway Project designed to provide connectivity from Fairburn Industrial Boulevard (Georgia 74) to Bohannon Road. The project will improve freight connectivity to Interstate 85 and Georgia 74 in the area of a CSX intermodal terminal. It will also provide an alternative route for motorists and trucks and to open parcels for future development.

The State Road and Tollway Authority awarded approximately $18.1 million in funding for 19 transportation infrastructure projects across the state.

“The GTIB program provides valuable resources to improve mobility in local communities while also strengthening Georgia’s transportation network,” said Deal. “By awarding grants and loans to local governments and community improvement districts, GTIB helps to maintain our roads and bridges, improve congestion and accommodate the movement of freight traffic.”
