The Citizen Police Academy, a program designed to acquaint citizens with the organization and interior working of the East Point Police Department, is offering a class Aug. 14 through Oct. 16, according to a press release. The program is designed to foster and enhance police-community relations and to raise community awareness of police operations and training in an effort to promote harmony within community.

The course of study is much the same as that of the regular police academy program. However, citizens graduating

from the course will not be police officers. Students will attend class once a week and topics will range from crime prevention, drug enforcement, criminal investigations, and the safety of firearms and will include a ridealong with police officers.

Registration is due by July 27.
