DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond unveiled a new public education campaign created to provide transparency, accountability and awareness of the county’s progress on Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax projects, a.

“DeKalb County is focused on being wise stewards of SPLOST pennies,” said CEO Thurmond. “The county will be transparent with taxpayers about SPLOST progress and our public education campaign encourages community engagement and oversight in a fun, memorable way.”

The “Penny Power” public education campaign is a visual reminder of DeKalb County’s shared investment in making every penny count toward improving its infrastructure. The campaign will help citizens easily identify where SPLOST funds are being spent.

DeKalb County will receive an estimated $388 million in revenue over the next six years as a result of the SPLOST that was overwhelmingly approved by 71 percent of voters in November 2017. SPLOST funding will be used to improve roads, public safety, parks, libraries, and senior centers.
