DeKalb plans to honor MLK 50 years after assassination

Martin Luther King Jr.: The Atlanta native and Morehouse College graduate was the leader of the civil rights movement, embracing a non-violent philosophy that led to the removal of segregation policies nationwide.

DeKalb County will present its annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration program on Jan. 12, this year honoring him 50 years after his assassination.

The event, “50 Forward: Together We Win with Love for Humanity,” will be at 11:30 a.m. in the Maloof Auditorium, located at 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur.

The tribute marks the 34th consecutive year DeKalb will host the employee-planned event honoring the life and legacy of King.

It’s free and open to the public.
