Crimes of Cobb: Woman slapped boy in face 16 times for not feeding dog

This is a roundup of recent crimes of note in Cobb County. It is based on arrest warrants, police reports and jail records. At this point, these are allegations by law enforcement.

Basketball brawl

A Kennesaw man was recently arrested for fighting during a pick-up basketball game at an LA Fitness.

The 39-year-old man was at the LA Fitness on Ernest Barrett Parkway about 7:20 p.m. on Nov. 1. He and another man began arguing over a foul on the arm.

The victim “bumped shoulder blades with (the) accused,” police wrote in a warrant.

The suspect then swung, missed, and swung again, this time landing a shot “square on the victim’s lower jaw causing substantial injury to the teeth, lower gum line and the jaw area,” the cops wrote. Surveillance footage showed the victim with his hands by his side.

The suspect was arrested Nov. 6 on a charge of aggravated battery, jail records show. He bonded out of jail about 14 hours later for $2,200.

Not feeding the dog

A Marietta woman, 49, was arrested for slapping a teenage boy 16 times in the face for not feeding a dog, according to a police warrant for child cruelty.

This was at a home off Sandy Plains Road in Marietta on Nov. 8, the warrant said.

The boy’s face was “swollen and he had bruising underneath his right eye,” the cops wrote.

A term of her $10,000 bond — which she paid four hours after being booked in jail — was that she not have contact with the boy alone.

Trafficking meth

An Austell man remained in Cobb jail Friday on a charge of trafficking methamphetamine.

The 30-year-old is accused of having 14½ kilograms, or nearly 32 pounds, of meth inside four red fire extinguishers, police wrote in a warrant.

It isn’t clear from the warrant why police were at the suspect’s home, but they allegedly found the fire extinguishers at the South Gordon Road home on Nov. 7.

The man remains in jail without bond on his felony drug charge.

Metal fire poker attack

A 39-year-old Marietta man is accused of hitting another man multiple times in the head with a metal fire poker, police wrote in a Nov. 8 warrant.

The suspect “attempted to force (the victim) to perform a sexual act on his wife, with which (the victim) did not agree because he through it would be considered rape.”

So the suspect hit him ten times in the head, leaving him with a “severe” cut in the back of his head, cops said.

The alleged attacker bonded out of Cobb jail about a day and a half later on his aggravated assault charge , according to jail records.

Power cord beating

A Douglasville man is accused of drunkenly striking a 12-year-old child multiple times with a power cord, causing cuts and bruises, according to a police warrant.

Cops said that this allegedly happened the night of Nov. 7 at a home a few blocks away from the Marietta Confederate Cemetery.

Police wrote in the warrant that the man was angry because the “child did not turn off his gaming system when told.” The child disclosed that the man “was intoxicated and angry,” according to the warrant.

The man was being held without bond on his child cruelty charge as of Friday, according to Cobb jail records.
