If you hear the sound of marching and music later this month, it may not be a spooky ghost band haunting your neighborhood.

That's because McEachern High School is hosting Music for All's Bands of America Powder Springs Regional Championship.

The 17-syllable name is for an Oct. 27 competition that pits more than 20 high school marching bands against each other, whittled down to 10 and then one regional champion.

The bands hail from Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, Illinois, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama. It is unclear if Cobb County emergency management officials have arranged for extra grits to be brought in.

The winnings kids will compete in Indianapolis, Indiana in November. (Say that five times fast.)

Preliminary competition begins at McEachern’s Walter Cantrell Stadium, 2400 New Macland Road in Powder Springs, at 12:30 p.m. It is slated to end about 4:15 p.m.

Gates will open for the finals at 6:15 p.m., and performances should begin at 7:15 p.m.
