Clark's Christmas Kids, the Atlanta holiday gift program organized by consumer advocate Clark Howard, readjusted its schedule Saturday after the December snow canceled two of its events on Friday and a third on Saturday.
Howard said Saturday this is only the second time snow has interrupted the gift drive in 27 years.
The gift campaign, which provides Christmas gifts for Georgia children in foster care, was operating on-site until 5 p.m. Saturday at the Duluth Walmart, 2635 Pleasant Hill Road. Clark’s Christmas Kids will also be accepting gifts on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., an expansion of its original hours, at two Walmarts. The Sunday locations are 210 South Cobb Parkway, Marietta and 4004 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn.
The Saturday schedule originally included a stop at the Buford Walmart. It was canceled due to the weather.
Howard, broadcasting on News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB from the Duluth Walmart Saturday, said this was only the second snowstorm to interrupt his annual toy drive, which is marking its 27th year. Speaking about the adjusted schedule, he said, “It’s like a makeup test, trying to catch up from three lost locations due to a rare December snow.”
In addition to the live events, Howard is collecting online donations. Volunteers will use those funds to buy gifts for the children. The 2017 Clark's Christmas Kids is a joint charity of Clark Howard, News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB and the Georgia Department of Family and Children's Services. The St. Vincent de Paul Society is helping to coordinate the gift drive.
Howard is host of a syndicated consumer radio show, which airs at 10 p.m. weekdays on New 95.5 and AM 750 WSB. WSB and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution are owned by Cox Media Group.
