The city of Brookhaven will offer online development services to contractors and residents through a new online portal on its website, starting Monday, May 21, according to a press release. Electronic applications and plan submittals, payments, scheduling inspections and tracking the status of projects can all be done through the portal.

The Community Development Department will host two information sessions to introduce the Open Counter Development Portal and to pre-register contractors for the portal. A session for developers, builders and trade contractors is 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 3 and one for residents is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 3. Both sessions will be held at City Hall, 4362 Peachtree Road. These sessions will introduce the portal and how to use it.

Friday, May 11 is the transition day for the new software, when there will be a hiatus in work on existing permits and cases. On that day, permits and certificates of occupancy will not be issued, and new applications, payments, and inspection requests will not be accepted. However, inspections scheduled in advance for May 11 will be performed.

  • The Open Counter Development Portal will provide multiple advantages to users, among them:
  • Submitting plans, and documents electronically, instead of the expense and inconvenience of printing and submitting multiple sets of paper plans
  • Applying for building permits, land development permits, land use petitions, and administrative permits online instead of at City Hall
  • Downloading plan review comments and approved plans from the portal
  • Making fee payments online
  • Scheduling inspections from a mobile device
  • Checking permit status and inspection results from the field at the user's convenience
  • Receiving email notifications about review comments, permit approvals, code enforcement case updates, and inspection results
  • Viewing open permits, zoning cases, and code enforcement cases on the portal map

Open Counter Development Services users will be required to register for a portal account to use these services.
