Valentine’s Day is not just for loving one another. It’s also for loving your city.

At least it is for Atlanta residents, who are encouraged to submit requests for trash, debris and graffiti removal to Atlanta Department of Corrections during a “Valentine’s Day beautification effort” from Feb. 14 through Feb. 28, a press release said.

This is Atlanta DOC's third annual "Love Our City" community improvement campaign. The work will be completed by detainees who participate in the Inmate Work Detail Program at the Atlanta City Detention Center.

Eligible inmates — defined as non-violent, minimum security detainees who are charged with misdemeanor offenses — are able to earn “good time” on their sentences by participating in the program.

To submit a request, send an email with "Love Our City" in the subject line to DOCCleanUp@Atlantaga.gov  or dial 311 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Requests such as trash pick-up, cutting grass, debris removal and painting over graffiti and boarding abandoned buildings, will be reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis and scheduled accordingly. Any requests that don’t fall within the scope of the department’s capabilities will be forwarded to the appropriate city agency for consideration.
