A lighted outdoor basketball court will be built at Wild Horse Creek Park near Powder Springs with a $44,000 grant from the Atlanta Hawks Foundation and $68,000 in county funds.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners accepted the grant on March 13 with no future impact to the county’s annual budget - except for the initial $68,000 in 2011 special purpose local option sales tax.

The Atlanta Hawks grant will pay for labor and materials for construction and installation, including basketball goals, backboards and net, with the county choosing the contractor.

Then the county will prepare the site before the basketball court installation.

Along with county staff, three vendors (W. E. Contracting, AllStar Lighting and Groover Fence Company) will complete the necessary preparation and acquire the final court amenities such as fencing, lighting and benches.
