The drafting of a “Creative Placemaking Plan” for Alpharetta’s North Point area to encourage development and reinvestment “and to create memorable experiences for consumers” has gotten the go-ahead from the City Council.

The council approved a $93,726 contract to MKSK, an urban design and planning firm, to “examine the options for elements to improve safety and walkability along the North Point Parkway corridor,” according to a staff report to the council.

The study also will suggest streetscapes, design guidelines and signage, as well as public art to make the corridor attractive, staff said. Lastly, the city will undertake a demonstration project to illustrate some of the final concepts.

The plan will be funded by a $75,000 Community Development Assistance grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission, with an $18,726 match from the city.
