A 13-year-old boy is expected to appear in Juvenile Court on charges of making terroristic threats against the Cobb branch of the NAACP.
The boy is accused of calling the local office of the NAACP last month and leaving a threatening message filled with expletives and racial slurs.
“My name, Johnny Rebel,” the message said, in part. “My profession, murdering black people.”
The case was turned over by local law enforcement to the FBI, but after a joint investigation revealed that the suspect was a juvenile, it was returned to the Marietta Police Department.
Cobb NAACP Chapter Head Deane Bonner welcomed the charges.
“At 13, terroristic threats should be taken seriously,” said Bonner, drawing a comparison with the Parkland High School shooter Nikolas Cruz, who reportedly exhibited disturbing behavior for years leading up to the shooting.
“We believe in due process,” she added.
