Things to do in DeKalb County on 4th of July

Looking for ways to celebrate the 4th of July in DeKalb County? Here is a list of some things you can do, including where to find fireworks.

Stone Mountain Park

Stone Mountain Park’s Fantastic Fourth Celebration is over 50 years old and widely regarded as one of the area’s biggest and best celebrations.

But it’s not just one day. From July 1 through July 7, park guests can enjoy fireworks every night immediately following the 9:30 p.m. laser show.

The show is included with admission, but guests who visit the park during the day and leave will have to pay again if they want to watch the fireworks in the evening. Once capacity is reached on July 4th, park gates will close to additional guests.

Downtown Decatur

The Pied Piper Parade will snake through downtown Decatur on Independence Day starting at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Neighborhood groups and community organizations will decorate floats in red, white and blue and join the processional.

At 7 p.m., a concert featuring the Callanwolde Concert Band will be held on the Decatur Square in the Community Bandstand.

Fireworks will be begin at nightfall, or approximately 9 p.m.



The City of Chamblee’s Fourth of July Celebration starts with a bike parade at Chamblee Middle School at 5 p.m. The parade route ends at Keswick Park, where each participant will win a prize.

The rest of the city’s celebration will be located at the park. There is a free cornhole tournament at 5:30 p.m. where contestants can win prizes from local businesses.

Soul and rock band Bogey and the Viceroy will be in concert  at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at nightfall.

Avondale Estates

The 4th of July Celebration begins at 10 a.m. with a parade that launches from the DeKalb School of the Arts and continues up Clarendon Avenue to Avondale Road.

At 7:30 p.m., there will be a concert at Lake Avondale followed by fireworks at dusk.


The Dunwoody 4th of July Parade will take place along two miles of Mount Vernon Road between Jett Ferry Road and Dunwoody Village Parkway. Organizers say they expect more than 2,500 participants and 32,000 people to line the route.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. and will feature floats, marching bands, clown units, animals and local dignitaries.

Legacy Garden Park

The 4th of July Old School Bash features R&B acts like ConFunkShun band and CeCe Peniston. Comedian Shuler King will serve as the host.

Formerly known as The Peace Garden and the Tupac Shakur Arts Center, Legacy Garden is located on Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain. Tickets start at $35 for lawn seating.
