Your 2018 property assessments are in the mail, Gwinnett, so monitor those mailboxes.

But remember: assessments are not tax bills.

Gwinnett officials said the county’s board of assessors mailed about 280,000 assessments to local home and business owners on Friday. The notices include the estimated value of residents’ taxable property and provides an explanation of any change in value from the previous year.

They also include an initial estimate of 2018 property taxes using this year’s assessed value and last year’s millage rates. The current year’s millage rates will not be set until later in the year, and tax bills will not be sent until after that.

County officials said about 59 percent of properties in Gwinnett will see a change in value this year.

“Overall, property sales reflect a real estate market that remains positive with high demand,” officials said in a news release.

Property owners have 45 days from the date on their assessment to file an appeal. Appeals can be filed online at gwinnett-assessor.com.

Property owners can also call 770-822-7200 or send an email to taxpayer.services@gwinnettcounty.com for assistance.
