One Gwinnett mayor says he’ll be among the local officials from across the country to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday.

Rey Martinez was sworn in as the new mayor of Loganville, which is in both Gwinnett and Walton counties, earlier this month. Martinez was an outspoken and active Trump supporter during the 2016 election season, leading the candidate's "Latino coalition" in Georgia.

Born in Puerto Rico to Cuban parents, Martinez is the first Latino mayor in the history of Gwinnett County, one of the most diverse communities in the Southeast.

Martinez and a few dozen other mayors from other parts of the country are scheduled to gather at the White House on Wednesday afternoon for an event dubbed “Mayors’ Day at the White House: A Conversation with President Trump.”

They’ll also meet with representatives from several federal agencies. According to various media reports, infrastructure is believed to be the primary topic.

Martinez said he was “honored and humbled to be invited.”
