Viviane Ernstes can now remove the word “interim” from her job title. DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond announced Monday that he was appointing Ernstes to serve as county attorney on a permanent basis.

Thurmond also has hired a new code enforcement director: Timothy C. Hardy. Previously, Hardy served as director of the city of Smyrna’s code enforcement division.

Ernstes has been serving as interim county attorney since the retirement of Overtis Hicks "O.V." Brantley at the end of 2017.

Ernstes’ appointment must be approved by the DeKalb Board of Commissioners.
