DeKalb County prepares for black ice, government offices opening late

DeKalb County and the cities of Dunwoody, Doraville and Chamblee will delay opening government offices until 10 a.m. on Tuesday because of the possiblity of black ice.

Libraries, senior centers and rec centers and other government offices will open at 10 a.m. The DeKalb Board of Commissioners meeting is also delayed until 10 a.m.

The county has a salt-and-sand truck loaded and a work crew on duty until midnight if the roads turn slick.

The city of Decatur has decided to stick to its normal operating hours on Tuesday, a spokeswoman said. A Brookhaven spokesman also said the city is monitoring the weather but had decided against a delay for now.

Low temperatures and the possibility of snow flurries have put the Metro Atlanta region on the lookout for black ice overnight.
