New DeKalb County Commission Presiding Officer Kathie Gannon is changing leadership of committees overseeing government policies.

Gannon, whom commissioners elected as their presiding officer this month, has said she wants the county's elected officials to take a stronger role in scrutinizing governance.

Five commissioners will chair committees, while Gannon will control the board as a whole.

Commissioner Larry Johnson, who was presiding officer before Gannon, said he didn't want a chairmanship so he can dedicate time in his community and for family medical appointments.

The commission also created an ad-hoc procurement committee, which will be responsible for reviewing contracting policies and recommending an ordinance. Bradshaw and Rader will serve on that committee.
