Cobb woman drops lawsuits against public safety officials

A Cobb woman who filed lawsuits against two high ranking public safety officials with the county has filed paperwork to drop both cases.

Katherine Scott filed the lawsuits last year against Maj. Dale Bolenbaugh, who heads the crimes against persons unit in the Cobb Police Department, and Sam Heaton, the director of public safety, objecting to the handling of complaints she filed.

Specifically, Scott sought $15,000 in damages against Bolenbaugh for forwarding communications related to her case to two individuals outside the department along with commentary that seemed to disparage Scott.

Judge Jennifer Inmon denied Bolenbaugh's motion to dismiss the case against him following a contested hearing in October.

Scott told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that she decided to drop the case herself after receiving assurances from the county manager and police chief that they take such matters seriously.

Bolenbaugh’s attorney Lance LoRusso declined to comment on the motion to dismiss, as did the county attorney’s office, which represented Heaton.
